Anyone who loves the hip, retro Los Angeles cocktail party music and atmosphere from Mad Men, will love this fresh new Euro-Lounge Jazz group from Rossi Music. Esperanto Lounge plays a danceable mix of 60’s surf, loungy Bossa Novas and Sambas, and 60’s pop rhythms. They perform this eclectic mix of rhythms in French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and English.

By including popular French and Spanish hits made famous by the original Euro-lounge band PINK MARTINI, but then layering in classic 60’s hits by Bert Bacharach, legendary film soundtrack music by composers like Michelle Legrande, and catchy French pop by artists like Serge Gainsbourg, they aim to entice the listener with these tantalizingly familiar melodies, catchy rhythms and the exotic beauty of other languages.

Live Los Angeles cocktail hour musicof the early 1960’s, (now know as the Mad Men era!), has always been my favorite style of listening music. It was the heyday of prodigious talents like Burt Bacharach, Henry Mancini, Michelle LeGrande and Antonio Carlos Jobim, who, in this decade, were debuting some of their most memorable songs of all time. Their music was on the radio and gracing movie soundtrack after movie soundtrack. Summer of 42, The Thomas Crown Affair, A Man and A Woman and Valley of The Dolls had glorious soundtracks that you could listen to over and over, featuring songs that are now classics. This is the music that inspired our own Mad Men Group Esperanto (http://www.rossimusic.biz/demo/ESPERANTO.htm)

Culling our absolute favorites from the long list of romantic and spicy songs that were hits of this era, we built Esperanto (http://www.rossimusic.biz/demo/ESPERANTO.htm) song by song. French and American pop, Brazilian jazz, and Italian lounge are all featured in this tasteful group’s eclectic list of hip cocktail music. Blending Bossa Novas, meringues, sambas and surf, the music is danceable and creates an unusual backdrop for all kinds of social gatherings. It is quiet enough to have as a backdrop for a dinner party or cocktail reception. And yet it makes for wonderful partner dancing, particularly if you and your guests enjoy ballroom dancing.

Because the lead singer performs in five languages, she brings an even more sophisticated edge to the music, and you can create all kinds of atmosphere with a group that is at once so cosmopolitan and so much fun. You might have left the music for last. I’m sure it wasn’t your initial intention, but other things took priority and next thing you know you still haven’t booked a string quartet for your Los Angeles event. Rest assured, we at Rossi Music have plenty of experience dealing with these situations.

Factors when selecting a string quartet in Los Angeles

As a client, your budget is probably a main factor when choosing vendors, including bands. There are so many options and agencies, one of the ways you can narrow it down is by price. Obviously, you don’t want the quality to be compromised, so there are a certain things to watch out for.

First of all, look at the presentation of the materials of the Los Angeles string quartet. Did they send you audio or video samples? Video is preferred, but audio is acceptable if it’s professional sounding and the group/agency also includes studio quality photos.

With video, notice where the video was taken and what the outfits are. Does it look like a rehearsal or does it look like they took the time and reserved a recording room with better audio quality? In terms of outfits, are they all coordinated in more formal wear? If they only have one look, it should be formal. Hip clothing is harder to coordinate, but young girls will always own plenty of that so you don’t have to worry if that’s the look you’re going for.

Our Los Angeles Jazz Bands are so stylistically diverse that it helps to understand a little about the various styles that work best for weddings and events.

Jazz has grown to be a very loose description for a music genre created 100 years ago. The first thing we will do when you call us is ask questions about the specific kind of jazz that turns you on. The classic jazz quartet typically features Sax, piano, bass, and drums, performing jazz standards from the Great American Songbook. This is one of the most popular reasons to hire jazz musicians; it’s the perfect music to entertain while guests are able to talk, socialize, and enjoy themselves and without being distracted by the music. Corporate dinner parties, awards shows, wedding receptions and dinners, corporate events, cocktail parties and engagement parties are the usual events that hire Jazz musicians. For a less traditional approach, smooth jazz or R&B jazz bands (think George Benson…) often provide a more contemporary groove while still remaining background music. Swing bands or “gypsy jazz” bands (think Django Reinhardt…) can offer a retro 1920’s acoustic jazz feel that seems to be in vogue at the moment. “French lounge” (think Pink Martini…) jazz bands with a vocalist singing in French are also very classy. There is still the “big bands” in the style of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Glen Miller, which lends itself to nice dinner music and swing dancing.
