What makes a dance band the best wedding band in Los Angeles

Los Angeles Cover Bands

Los Angeles Cover Bands

The best live music bands for Los Angeles weddings are the ones that understand the event is focused on the bride and groom and their family and friends having a great time. These bands can sense the vibe the room is giving off and what songs will draw the most amount of people to the dance floor. They raise the energy for dancing and lower it for dinner, slow dances, and the newlyweds’ first dance.

One of the things that make weddings unique for bands is the age range and ethnic diversity of the audience. The best Los Angeles wedding bands have a playlist that spans hits from the 50′s to current top 40. They guarantee they can even get the grandparents of the bride and groom on the dance floor! Part of the way party bands do this is by playing music of timeless artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nat King Cole,  perfectly fit for both the newlyweds on their first dance and as a slow ballad for the older audience.

A lot of the younger audience wants more hip and upbeat dance tunes. Oftentimes the musical taste of the bride and groom differs so much there must be a balance between the two. Wedding bands and DJ’s create a bridge of music between the bride, groom, and their guests, spanning different tastes, flavors, and styles. The bandleader (usually called the emcee) will call the right songs at the right moments and know when to raise the volume to get people on the dance floor or lower it down for light dinner conversation. These helpful tips will help you pick the best DJ and/or bands for your wedding in Los Angeles.

Tips on choosing the wedding band in Los Angeles that best fits your needs

Los Angeles Wedding BandA typical Los Angeles wedding band usually knows and can cover hundreds if not thousands of dance tunes.  As the client, you will probably have a certain type of genre that suits your needs. If in doubt, pick music of timeless artists such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, and Nat King Cole, as well as songs 9 out of 10 people if surveyed would recognize. You can also try to imagine what your audience will like based on the age range and ethnicity, and you could even ask a few of your most special guests.

One of the first things to do when shopping for bands is to ask for their song list and decide how many musicians in the band you are willing to pay for. The size of the group and the instruments is vital to the sound you are looking for. If you want music to be one of the highlights at your wedding, find out what instruments you would like, such as horns, male and/or female vocalist, percussionist, string quartet for the cocktail hour, or electric strings, which are quickly becoming the premiere choice of clients for cocktail hours and even wedding dance music in LA.

Los Angeles wedding bands don’t require you to give them a set list, as it is a courtesy to let the musicians choose some of their own repertoire. Selecting songs that are of emotional significance to you and your partner will ensure your evening will be memorable for years to come. As a plus, your guests will know both of you a little more by the end of the night!

Tips on choosing a wedding band in Los Angeles

Wedding band Los Angeles- Decide the style(s) of music you want
A Los Angeles wedding band is usually a dance cover band that knows hundreds of tunes, but you may have a specific genre in mind, so it’s ideal to find a band that specializes in that style. If that’s not practical, at least choose a group whose general sound you enjoy and ask for their song list.
- Decide the size of the ensemble
Even though you’re probably not a musician, the size and instruments of a band greatly differentiate it. If music is a key element in your wedding (which we hope it is!), do your research and find out if you would like horns in the band, male/female vocalists (or both), live percussion (other than drum set), and even electric strings, which are one of the hot items in live music at the moment.
- Draft a setlist
Bands don’t require that you provide them with a setlist, and it’s considered a courtesy to allow musicians to choose some of their own repertoire, but if you do have specific songs in mind, no band will object to playing them. It will make your wedding that much more personal, and you will have fun reminiscing of certain songs that are particular to you and your future spouse.
These are just a few of the considerations when choosing a Los Angeles wedding band! We hope you will come to Rossi Music and check out our wedding dance bands page for more information on our stellar groups.

Best live music bands for Los Angeles weddings

Best live music bands for Los Angeles weddingsThe best live music bands for weddings in Los Angeles, are those bands that understand that the event is all about the bride and groom and their guests.  The best wedding bands know how to read a room, and call song after song that draws people to the dance floor and keeps them there all night along. They can amp up the energy for dance sets and bring it back down for dinner, or a romantic moment for the bride and groom.  Weddings are special for so many reasons, but they present unique challenges when it comes to musical entertainment.  Why? Wedding guests are generally a very diverse group of people.  Receptions are family affairs, which means that they are made up of people of all ages, from older grandparents and great grandparents down to very young children.

The best live wedding bands, whether in Los Angeles, or Peoria, cover music that spans 5 or 6 decades of top 40 hits.  And they cover these hit songs extremely well! Because they understand that when the parents and grandparents of the bride and groom get on the dance floor, they are going to want to dance to music from their own era, and hear the songs that were popular when they were young. Songs performed by artists like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole provide the romantic backdrop for a first dance, or the perfect tempo for a father-daughter dance or a mother son dance.

At the same time, young people will have no patience for anything but the most current hit songs they hear on their own playlists on their iPods.  Kids are the same everywhere, so whether your wedding is held in Los Angeles or Chicago, Seattle or Tampa, the songs that draw them to the dance floor must be familiar and fun. So they are clamoring to hear lady Gaga, Sarah Bereilles and Rhianna. Add to this the fact that a wedding is the celebration of two completely separate families joining together to become one large family.  Often the bride and groom’s families are from opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to music.

A great live wedding band is a bridge of music between all of these different tastes, ages and styles.  Following an event timeline, the band leader will emcee, and call the right songs for the right moments.  Knowing when to keep the volume down for socializing and when to kick it up for a dance till you drop experience, the best live music bands will have the right song for the right moment, giving the bride and groom the happiest of memories for a night they will never forget.

The Los Angeles String Trio Performs in a beautiful private home in Encino, California

This past Saturday, October 6, Rossi Music’s “The Los Angeles String Quartet” played a ceremony in a beautiful private home in Encino. As usual, the bride requested the string quartet to play more traditional classical music for the pre-ceremony portion of the wedding. But for the actual ceremony the bride insisted on having her most favorite rock tunes be arranged and performed for the processional and recessional. The Los Angeles String Quartet had the pleasure of being joined by vocalist Windy Barnes, who is as comfortable in jazz as gospel and R&B and has performed extensively in Los Angeles, CA and Asia. Her touring credits include Julio Iglesias, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Bolton. Julio said she ‘sings like heaven’ and has ‘one of America’s most beautiful voice.’

Arranger Rick Rossi wrote special arrangements for ‘You are the Sunshine of My Life’, an instrumental for the bridal party entrance, and ‘Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now’, the recessional choice. ‘Let’s Stay Together’ with vocals was used for the bridal entrance, and Camelot’s ‘The Prayer’ was softly played for the reading. Adding vocals to some of the ceremony songs was an excellent choice, it added just the right touch. The bride was very happy with the result and personally expressed her satisfaction, along with the groom.  Congratulations to the newlyweds.  The Los Angeles String Quartet and Rossi Music always feel privileged to be a part of these important events in people’s lives!

Introducing “The Los Angeles String Quartet”

Featured

A New Contemporary Approach to the “Classic” String Quartet

Early this year, Rossi Music saw the demand rising for more than just the standard classical string quartet for the Los Angeles weddings and corporate events that we book. Young brides and grooms have been requesting their favorite pop songs for their wedding ceremony in record numbers.   So we started to put the word out, looking for talented young female string players interested in playing rock and pop standards in a string quartet format. Meanwhile, we collected arrangements of rock tunes for string trio and quartet to add to our repertoire. In a few weeks, we had a list of the hottest players in town – freelance musicians who actively play in movie scores and on screen in shows such as American Idol, America’s Got Talent, The Voice, and numerous talk shows and primetime television. In April, the Los Angeles Rock String Quartet was formed, rehearsed, video taped, and already performing and trying out the new groups arrangements at wedding ceremonies in the area.

We found arrangements from several prominent Los Angeles composer-arrangers of excellent rocking string trio and quartet arrangements from the 60′s to current pop hits. Songs like “My Sharona”, “I’m Yours” (Jason Mraz), Michael Jackson tunes, Led Zeppelin, Lady Gaga (Poker Face, Papparazzi, Bad Romance), You Belong to Me (Taylor Swift), Beatles, Elton John, Rolling Stones medley, Sting, and many others too numerous to mention. We have already produced several video clips of many of the songs in the Los Angeles String Quartet‘s repertoire that you can view at at http://www.rossimusic.biz/weddings-ceremony-demo.php
