On Thursday May 6th, Esperanto will be kicking off World Music Month at the Hotel Intercontinental in Beverly Hills! Come spend an evening after work enjoying live Jazz while partaking in the sexy, simple, and luxurious happy hour that Hotel Intercontinental is offering this Thursday night.
Esperanto is composed of Grammy award-winning musicians from all corners of the world. Their musical styles bring an abundance of exotic color and arresting serenity.
Featured vocalist, Rebecca Kyler Downs, hit the Billboard Jazz charts in 2002 with her French and English vocals on Come Fly Away on Steve Reid’s smooth Jazz CD Dream‘Scapes, in which she co-wrote the lyrics. Her songs have been in numerous movies including “Candy” in “The Cooler”. Long known as one of the two beautiful girl singers with Red And The Redhots she has toured all over the US and Europe, and featured on tv and in Vogue, with Leonardo Di Caprio. Her astonishing, unique ability to sing in 5 languages as well as her onstage charisma makes Rebecca Esperanto’s most valuable asset.
Playing the flute, clarinet, soprano and tenor saxes, arranging, and writing – Rick Rossi has composed and arranged music for film and television soundtracks, as well as for various artists, bands and CDs. The list of legendary artists he has worked with includes Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Cher, Stanley Clarke, Shakira, Natalie Cole, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Gregg Karukas, Bobbie Womack, George Duke and Bobbie Caldwell. He has three Grammy nominations and one win.
Hussain Jiffry – Electric Bass, Vocals, writer – Born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Hussain grew up with the richly traditional music of his country. He has recorded and toured with many artists, including Tom Scott, David Foster, Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, Tito Puente, Michael Bolton, Deneice Williams, Herb Alpert & Lani Hall. He currently tours with Sergio Mendes, LA All Stars & Yanni .
Tateng Katindig – Keys – the son of saxophone great, Eddie Katindig, and Remedios Hernaez, Tateng was born in the Philllipines into an intensely musical family. After touring with the Luis Tan trio and Kevyn Lettau he moved to Los Angeles, in 2002, and in the short time he has been here he has performed with many greats such as Earl Palmer – the legendary drummer, Lou Rawls, Ritchie Cole, Alphonse Mounzon, Bill Henderson, the late Teddy Edwards and Hubert Laws.
Michael Higgins – Guitar , writer – A veteran studio and touring musician, his resume is long and star-studded. Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, Maynard Ferguson, Tom Scott, David Benoit, The Fifth Dimension, Jeffrey Osborne, Blood Sweat and Tears and Frank Sinatra are a tiny fraction of the artists he has shared stage with. Masters in Jazz Studies and a B.A in Classical Guitar. His influences range from Miles Davis to Led Zeppelin to Andreas Segovia and he brings this expansive worldview to his artistry.
Walter Rodriguez – Drums - born in San Juan. P.R., played his first TV show at the age of seven. Walter has performed at the Modern Drummer Magazine Festival in 2006, STOMP 2000-2003, toured with Yanni during the 2004 and 2005 Ethnicity Tour, and has been featured alongside artists such as Juan Carlos Quintero, Ricky Martin, Rudy Regalado, Alex Acuna, Arturo Sandoval, King Cotton, Herb Alpert, and Otmaro Ruiz.
